The 2025 Coalbed Methane Exploration and Development Annual Conference was held in Chengdu

2025-03-19

From March 14th to 15th, the 2025 Coalbed Methane Exploration and Development Annual Conference was held in Chengdu, Sichuan. The conference conducted an in-depth analysis of the latest trends and challenges in the development of the coalbed methane industry, discussed key technologies for the efficient exploration and development of coalbed methane and coal-rock gas, and laid a solid foundation for promoting technological innovation in the coalbed methane industry and facilitating the green, low-carbon, and efficient development of unconventional natural gas resources in China.
During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, China's coalbed methane industry has developed rapidly, making significant breakthroughs in deep areas, new areas, and new fields. The conference, themed "Intelligent Driving Coalbed Methane Industry Development, Innovation Forging a New Era of Green Energy," focused on the exchange and sharing of hot topics such as the theory of coalbed methane and coal-rock gas exploration and development. Experts attending the conference generally believe that in recent years, enterprises represented by PetroChina have made breakthrough progress in the field of coal-rock gas, making coal-rock gas an important replacement field for increasing reserves and production, which is of great significance to improving the self-sufficiency rate of natural gas and ensuring national energy security.
In response to challenges such as insufficient understanding of the characteristics of coal-rock gas reservoirs and production increase mechanisms, and insufficient technology transfer and applicability, experts suggested that basic research should be strengthened, cross-fusion of oil and gas and coal disciplines should be promoted, key core technologies should be actively explored, and the process of digital and intelligent construction should be accelerated. The goal is to strive to trigger a world-class coalbed methane industry revolution through a coal-rock gas revolution.
The conference was jointly hosted by Coalbed Methane Company and China University of Petroleum (Beijing), with the participation of 3 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and over 400 industry experts, scholars, and enterprise representatives.
