Recently, the complete set of equipment for Ethiopia’s Calub natural gas processing project—fully funded, independently constructed, and supported by our company’s operations and maintenance services—has successfully completed domestic manufacturing and factory acceptance. The entire system is fully assembled and ready for shipment, having been dispatched to the Calub gas field site in Ethiopia’s Ogaden Basin. This marks a pivotal transition: the project has officially moved from the equipment‑manufacturing phase into the critical stage of on‑site construction overseas, representing an important milestone in the company’s efforts to deepen its presence in the African energy market and to advance the China–Africa Belt and Road Initiative.

Departing from the Ogaden Basin

Beneath the vast expanse of Ethiopia’s eastern Ogaden Basin lies an abundant reserve of natural gas. The Calub gas field is a true gem within this energy-rich treasure trove.

The complete plant unit being shipped this time is a critical piece of natural gas processing equipment constructed by the company for the Calub gas field. All process modules, rotating machinery, automated control systems, and safety‑related auxiliary facilities were pre‑fabricated, assembled, pressure‑tested, and pre‑commissioned domestically. The entire unit has successfully passed factory performance acceptance testing and third‑party authoritative inspections.

This complete set of equipment was entirely shipped overseas via a unified, ship‑wide loading method.

Departing from Chinese ports, the complete set of equipment will be shipped via the Indian Ocean to the port of Djibouti, then transported overland across the Ethiopian Plateau, ultimately reaching the Calub gas field site in the Ogaden Basin. This transportation route, spanning an ocean and traversing a highland, is nothing less than a modern-day “Energy Silk Road.”

Upon arrival at the site, the project team will sequentially carry out critical tasks, including on-site assembly, pipeline welding, system verification, and integrated commissioning, to ensure the facility achieves successful first-time startup.
