The Tarim Oilfield has surpassed 400 billion cubic meters of gas supplied to the West-to-East Gas Pipeline Network, benefiting nearly 500 million people across 15 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities along the route.

As of July 12, the Tarim Oilfield—the main gas source for the West-to-East Gas Pipeline—has cumulatively supplied over 400 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the pipeline network, providing a solid guarantee of gas supply for the production and daily life of nearly 500 million residents across 15 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities along the route. Calculations show that 400 billion cubic meters of natural gas is equivalent to approximately 510 million tons of standard coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 520 million tons—roughly the annual carbon sequestration capacity of more than 75 million hectares of forest.
Since the commissioning of the First Line of the West-to-East Gas Pipeline in 2004, the Tarim Oilfield has supplied one-third of the total gas transported through the pipeline network, making it the earliest and most reliable indigenous core gas source for this major energy artery.
To ensure a steady and reliable gas supply, the Tarim Oilfield has accelerated its exploration and development efforts, implementing multiple measures to boost production and safeguard supply. The Kelamayi No. 2 Gas Field, known as the “first source of West-to-East Gas Transmission,” has pushed the boundaries of enhanced water‑flood recovery in gas reservoirs, bringing into production seven wells each with cumulative output exceeding 10 billion cubic meters. This has established China’s largest cluster of high‑producing gas wells, each averaging 800,000 cubic meters per day—enough to meet the daily gas consumption of a city with a population of one million. Meanwhile, the “first station” of the West-to-East Gas Pipeline, which connects the various gas fields to the transmission network, has undergone three rounds of expansion, increasing its annual maximum gas‑supply capacity from 12 billion cubic meters to 40 billion cubic meters.
While safeguarding the region’s energy infrastructure, the Tarim Oilfield has vigorously advanced the “Gasification of Southern Xinjiang” project, ensuring that oil and gas resources benefit local communities. Over 5,400 kilometers of trunk pipelines have been constructed across southern Xinjiang, with cumulative gas deliveries exceeding 75 billion cubic meters, directly benefiting more than 8 million people from all ethnic groups in 42 counties and cities, as well as 46 agricultural and pastoral regiments.
